Drawing with Kevin Dean

Throughout these past few weeks, we have had drawing lessons with Kevin Dean to help us improve on our drawing skills. Having a good set of drawing skills will enable us to sketch out our make-up designs and especially with special effects makeup, not all ready made face charts are good because most of our designs are very three dimensional. Through these drawing lessons, it has really helped us to map out our designs on the face from different angles and perspectives.

Here are a few examples of drawings from the class:

Above is a drawing of Leonardo Dicaprio using the grid method. The grid method encourages us to draw what we really see and makes proportions more accurate.

This is a how to guide that Kevin gave us showing a step by step on the formation of a head. I found this really helpful when it came to creating the right angles.

Kevin made us sit in a circle and made us each model for ten minutes, above is quick sketches of classmates.

Kevin also made us draw each other but in attention to one part of the face. Above are two different eyes and Kevin's nose.

He encouraged us to draw self portraits working in front of a mirror, posing in different angles. He also made us draw family and friends of different ages to practice drawing different face shapes.

We also drew vegetables, this encouraged us to think about the texture, depth and shape and will help when designing our moulds for our second special effect image.

We worked towards drawing a closeup of our mould design on the area of the face we intended to place it, this would give us an idea of what it would look like.
